Well. I havent had this problem since just after my swap, but it has returned. I go to start the car and nothing happens. I can hear the fuel pump at first. Takes me anywhere from 5-20 turns of the key to get it goin. Wont even make a noise but when it cranks over it starts quick. The starter is fairly new. Im thinking Loose ground, wire or harness. Anyone ever had this problem?

i would first check the positive battery terminal and the connection on the starter.... From there, I would replace the starter relay, i bet the problem is the starter relay.

Hey Wes

If my starter relay is clicking, does that mean it is working?

Tapping on the starter is standard test procedure for a Chevy starter.

The Infiniti starter is a wee bit more sophisticated, and tapping on it with a hammer is a good way to mess it up, but if the tapping works and the starter turns over, you know it is the starter solenoid.

OK I cleaned this thread up a little bit..

Anyway, first off to dsagers.. NOt necessarily. I had a relay that would click but would intermittently engage the starter.. I took the relay out and banged on it a few times and it worked great, but I keep a spare on hand. Maybe built up corrosion or something?

Try jumping the starter relay. disconnect it, and with a paper clip or jumper wire go across the switch terminals.. IF that works, then you know you've got a bad starter relay. if that doesnt work, you've probably got a connection issue.

Try that and report back.

well, honestly for the past couple days it hasn't been a problem. Not sure if this problem will come up again but i will keep my eye out. Could be just the body which the engine went in sat for a while. BTW i sent you an email about an ECU wes, not sure if you got that yet i have to check my email. thanks

Save yourself a lot of grief and replace the relay first.

I had my starter relay tested as good, so I went thru the hassle to swap out starter motor and nothing changed.

Had an extra relay that I plugged in, and it immediately started.

It is so much cheaper and easier to start with the relay.

FACT, its a known problem on Q45, worst case its a $20 part you have a spare of!
