Hey guys I took this video form someone elses thread, but I have the exact same problem. When you turn the key over, sometimes it will start, sometimes it will do nothing and make no noise

This is for an 01 pathfinder with the vq35de engine

All lights power up, and when it does start it starts fine, its just that sometimes I have to wait a minute, try again and itll work, sometimes itll go if I turn the key again etc.

I was told it may be an "inhibitor" relay in the thread that I took the video from, but I was unable to locate that, any help with that would be appreciated aswell.

Thanks

Have you hit the starter or starter solenoid. older starters stick. Not familiar with your vehicle but a relay is long shot . battery and battery cables is the obvious thing to look at first. about 20 things can cause this problem.

@Vancouverbc: Sorry for being off-topic, but I have a problem with the frost plug 40 mm. You have written an excellent help page in this forum:zerothread/294409I could not find out how to contact you via email, therefore again sorry for being off-topic in this thread.

I went to my local nissan dealer with the part number 009331301A from your page and bought 3 plugs. At home , I checked and they are all 36 mm I went back to the dealer and he insisted that he had taken them out of the package still wrapped and the number on the package had been correct according to him. In contrast to your photo clearly showing the 40 mm stamped into the plug, mine are without that.

I have absolutely no idea how to go on!Is the parts number wrong or the dealer too stupid? Can you tell me whether the part number is correct? Then I would have to find a better dealer.Or if the number is wrong, PLEASE tell me the right one.

Help would be seriously appreciated, thank you very much in advance!Email please to christiansinner(at)hotmail.com.

Frustrated greetings from Ol' Germany,Christian

The plug is 40mm for the 240sx. Ignore the part number and go by size.

Anyone have anymore pointers? Could I possibly just need an ignition switch?

Relay?

Starter?

Anyways to narrow it down would be appreciated

its your starter solenoid. that kind of behavior is exactly what happens when it starts to go out. if it wont go you can usually get it to click by hitting it with a wrench or something, but its not too expensive or hard to replace anyway.

Starter. Had the same problem with my girlfriends Sentra. More specifically the solenoid.
