Using cheap batteries or not replacing batteries every three years contributes to starter failure (among other things). They dont go bad very often on the Q.

You're thinking of the alternator? Cheap batteries don't hurt the starter. VERY rare failure.

Perhaps. But I was also thinking about the difficulties cranking when a battery is nearing failure. The repetitive cranking seems like it would wear down the starter, no?

Most of the time (at least from what ive heard) the starter doesnt go bad, its the solenoid or the relay......

dunno about the Q, but a friend and i changed my starter right outside of autozone im less than an hour with a jack, and a rachet set.

how quick it is to replace the starter would depend on where it is. For example on my Jeep it's on the top and readliy accesible. On my old Honda, replacing the starter required jacking up the vehicle and removing a front wheel.

Dennis told me that the starters in the LS400 is under the plenum! How about that for a PITA!
