heres a newb question.. now my old battery was stock, so i got rid of it and bought a new one, nuthin great but its a battery, my car isnt registered so never drive it, only to move it around the yard or whatever. i listen to more music in it then run the engine. but today i went to start it after listenin to some music and i just got clicks, almost definetly from the starter right? i think my battery is just low now and needs a jump, but just incase how much is a new starter?

just replaced the starter on the camaro. started driving all happy then the radio cuts out and the engine stops. didnt pay close enough attention to what i was doing reconnected it with the positive battery cable near the exhaust manifold. once it melted through the insulation it started arcing melted clean through the wire. Might have been the original problem not sure if the starter was even bad. totally unrelated but uh watch where that wire goes.

if u try to start it and u just hear a loud click from the engine bay, its prolly the starter. if u really need to get it started, try turning it over multiple times really fast. hopefully youll hear "clickclickclickclickclicivrooooom" u could also have someone bang on the starter with a hammer.:icesangel

starters have bushings a quick test that may work is to tap on it with a hammer or wrench, if it starts it's the bushings in the starter, You can rebuild it or replace it. I rebuilt mine with out actually buying new parts, rigged it to work because i needed the car for work and school, i got another week out of it. Replaced it on the weekend, That click you hear when you turn the key is the starter solonoid, it works just the starter motor does'nt, if it is a standard try push starting it or poping the clutch if this works again it is the starter.
