Hey All,

Starting yesterday, my car starting having a wierd problem. I am fairly sure it is one of the ignition relays inside the car near the driver side, but I wanted you guys' input.

The problem is: When i go to start the car, i turn the key to ignition, and all the lights come on normally and stay on. When i turn the key to Start position, i hear some relays click, but the starter stays put. Once i back the key off, the dash lights are all super dim, like there is some huge current draw on the battery. I can 'reset' this by taking the battery ground off, waiting a few seconds, and reseating it. Sometimes after this the starter will turn and start the car, sometimes not.

Anyone seen this before?cheers,Marko

are you sure the "relay clicks" aren't your starter clicking?are they really rapid clicks?or is it just one click?

If its multiple clicks then your starter is bad, replace it

If its simply one click then your battery is very low get it tested at autozone and have them recharge it.

My battery went bad and wouldnt keep a charge it was at like 9 volts the starter would click once and all lights would go out.

i kind of doubt its my battery, but i could get it tested. I only hear one click, it doesn't continuously keep clicking.

the reason i doubt it is that if i disconnect the negative terminal and reconnect it, the power comes back and I'm able to start the car fine.. often.

Although it is colder now, so I'm wondering if there is some borderline stuff going on.

i have a fairly similar problem although i haven't fixed it yet. when i try to start my 95 a lot of the time it will just click. i don't have to disconnect the battery though. i just keep trying. it also is just one click. and after a few tries it always starts. no clue what it is.

make sure your using the right battery size too.I had a smaller battery that i got for free in my s13 and after a while it wouldnt start, the start would click once and everything would go dead. As soon as i turned the key back a click everything went back on. My battery was at like 9 volts it needs to be at 12 i believe.go to auto zone ask them to test and recharge your battery also have them look up how many CCA you need.Did this and fixxed my problem now my car starts up in a heartbeat.

is your battery still in your trunk or did you do a relocation? If its still in the engine bay then your battery is most likely low on voltage

Oh also i just thought about this remove your battery terminals and check the tips of the copper wires for oxidation if they are really green then cut them back to fresh wire and get new terminals if yours are jacked upI had the same problem as all of you and i did everything i just said and like i said my car starts up in a heartbeat.

-make sure your terminals are clean-go test your battery-if you got the time, take out your starter and go get it tested-if those are okay, check your relays

I recently had this problem. I would turn the key and interior lights and radio were on, but no start. No clicks from the starter. I found out it was a bad starter.

Just have to go through the motions of narrowing the problem down.

well the problem hasn't reoccurred for 2 days now... I jiggled around the relays on the drivers side footwell. I am going to go take off that kickpanel and take a closer look at them.

The starter is relatively new, since January, so I hope its not that. If it does it again i will kick the starter solenoid to see if it 'resets' the issue..

cheers,Marko
