Hi Guys,

My old starter just gave out in my 95 240sx KA24DE. I got a new one at schucks and noticed that it came with documentation saying there are two starters, 8 and 9 teeth, and that they are interchangeable, so i can install the one they gave me either way. I installed the starter and the car started up smoothly. It cranks faster then the old one and has a cool higher pitch sound to it.

Anyways, the problem i have noticed is that sometime after i start cranking, then on the first or second 'turn-over' the flywheel seems to come to a stop for a split second and then continues cranking. It almost sounds like the starter teeth/flywheel jam into each other. The car always starts up fine in the end though, besides this abrubt jam in the middle.

I took the starter out and got some pics also: old starter, teeth sides are worn... is that ok?

new starter, teeth look fairly new still, maybe it needs to 'break in?' lol

and a candid shot of the flywheel:

cheers for any input! I'm thinking i need to take this thing back to Schucks.

its not a new starter its the oem starter however, i did put in a lightweight fidanza flywheel. i was told it shouldn't be a problem. It stops instantly after the car is started. The only time i hear the noise is when i start it up

It could be a section of stripped teeth on the flywheel, but your describing a jam so Im not sure. That would explain the randomness. It would only happen when it cam across those few teeth that are stripped.
