I am having a problem with my 91 240 SE, it seems to be a common one to a certain extent, but mainly what i have is a problem of when i start the car, the engine will start rev up to about 1500 rpm then where it normally corrects itself to the normal idle, mine stalls. this problem just developed right after i had a new muffler installed, be it coincedence or not i dont know. i have tried changing my 02 sensor, pcv valve, cleaning the aiv reeds, none seem to really fix it. although it did correct some of the irregular idle problems. i also have recently changed my fuel pump, and then i replaced the fuel pump again since it had a warranty, still does it. My manual is a cd rom version purchased from ebay and is not very helpful, or descriptive with troubleshooting methods. I dont know of any IAA tests to perform but my idle does not seem to have a problem anymore, when it does start it runs like a champ. but at least daily when the car is cold it will sometimes do the stall. if anyone has dealt with this problem PLEASE HELP ME, i am getting tired of throwing money at the wrong pieces, even though it is not bad to replace these parts :help thanks to all for the help

check all of the vacuum hoses for cracks/holes or see if they are just plain missing

I have gone that route before, actually that was the first plan of attack, all lines were secure and free from holes, i replaced anything that had the slightest look of damage.I could use a new coolant resevoir, since i have the a crack near the cap

I may have the exact same thing with mine, i did notice a fuel smell right after it died almost like it was running rich, just as you described. was that something you noticed as well? I will go meter out my MAF wires tomorrow and see what happens. This just seems odd since it started no more then 2 days after i had a new muffler installed, i just cleaded the MAF yesturday and once i reconnected the lead it worked fine. I will try your theory out and see.
