start problem in '91 240........please help!!!

Well, yesterday I went outside to warm up my 240 and when I turned the key........nothing cranked....no spark......nothing....I went and thought that it was the battery but even a jump start was no help.....the only clue I have is that when I turn the key to start it, a small clicking noise can be heard from inside the air filter box. I'm thinking it may be the alternator but I'm not completely sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

get a new starter...it wouldn't be the alternator if you jumped it....my alternator went and the car ran fine until we disconnected it from the other car when it promptly struggled and then died....try a starter first and go from there

get a new battery to test it with or charge yours for a while. you will probably disreguard this since you tried jumping but that clicking noise is most likely your starter solenoid not getting enought juice from the batt. good luck.
