Post

My apologies if I've duplicated a thread already posted.

I've had a problem cold starting my car since I purchased it Mid Dec. Changed the Battery, which helped alot though still gave trouble. Recentely replaced the Fuel Filter and 02 Sensor (which has helped me car's performance a ton!) but still trouble starts. Have new fuel injectors as well. Argh! I don't know what to do any more..any suggestions?

Also, over the past couple weeks I've been noticed an increasing ticking sound coming from the back side of the Valve Cover. Sounds like it's right behind it toward the firewall. It is there very slightly at idle and very noticable accelerating and driving. Doesn't get faster only louder, seems to disappear after 3000rpm and not exist while coasting. My dad thinks it could be a leak in the the exhaust manifold but I don't think so. Am also partially missing a few screws in the valve cover, some are broken off but still in place. Could I be hearing the noise from the valves if the cover and gasket are becoming loose?

I have heard bearing noise before and this is not it and also have a new timing chain and guide so it's likely not that either.

Any ideas guys and/or girls.? This is starting to get concerning. Thanks!!

I'll clarify. It sounds like a lawnmower.

If it were your vavles ticking, it would get faster and slower depending on your RPM's. As you said though, it doesn't change frequency, just intensity. I have no idea, but just in case, if you're using regular gas, try a higher octane. PEACE. Tek.

Thanks guys. Yep, just LOUDER, not any faster. I'm using 92 Octane. I'm hoping it could be the head gasket, not that that's fun. I think there are likely 3 or so bolts that could be loose on the cover. It seems similar in it's progressing nature to a problem I had with my fan running itself loose on broken bolts.

Then again, if it were a noisy head gasket wouldn't the sound get faster since I would be hearing the valves?

BTW. Nissan Bolts suck!!
