Can you run a motor with no driveshaft in the transmission (transmission in neutral of course)? Do I need transmission fluid in?

I'm doing a swap and the driveshaft is too long so I would still like to be able to get the motor running in the mean time while getting a new driveshaft made.

The motor is an RB20, but that shouldn't matter.

Make sure the trans has fluid in it . Be sure not to shift through the gears. As long as the output shaft isnt turning you should not loose and fluid.
