I have only had one instance where my battery was dead and wouldn't start my car. That was due to the starter not disengaging anf it actually burned the battery and fuses overnight. Even though the dearler tests my battery at each oil / filter change it is still possible for the battery to fail between those visits and this product will always be your savior if it happens to you. I don't think it's all that new, just new to me. In case you didn't know about it, here is the video that turned me on to it:

mac, If there's any truth to ALL the instructions and info , from remanufactured Alternators, to owner's manuals a Fact that a healthy battery is needed or the alternator WILL fry. That jump-starter -if battery is truly "caked-on-bad" better be used to get you 1/2 mile home or a shop. YMMV ,for any more , according to the experts , your messing with KILLING YOUR FINE WORKING ALTERNATOR over a DEAD BATTERY ! :spitout:
That thing is strictly emergency start - with potential for damage - strategy. :lolling:
p.s. Scotty Kilmer really cool , by the way.

I guess thats fine to jump start the car and then go get the battery replaced, but is it really worth doing over a regular charger? This device will only work if your battery is partly dead but still has a few volts in it. If the battery is really dead from something draining it all night long and being old on top then it will have to be charged from a wall or another car anyway. It will also fail if whatever was draining power from the battery is still engaged and trying to drain power, as that drain will be pulling from the supercapacitors. The only way the supercapacitors can charge is by constantly feeding that residual voltage into them to let the cap voltage build. When the caps have something pulling on them the voltage wont be able to build properly.

It is also twice as expensive as a regular battery charger:

I agree. This is for that time you are in the middle of nowhere and you go straight to a mechanic or parts store.... or in your driveway and must get to the office. I would use it to get the car started and I would drive straight to the dealer where a loaner is waiting for me. To use this consistently instead of getting the cause fixed is well, ermm, just plain STUPID.
Actually, I would call for road service but if the wait is 2 hours, then I would use this cuz it just takes 3 minutes. Still, it's just to get the car to the dealer or mechanic. Any other use is way too dangerous.
