Oh. My. God.

There are few times I am left speechless, and I have to say that I was rendered so after learning of this. Chris Roberts, the mind behind classics like Wing Commander and Freelancer is making a new PC only space sim. It sounds to be on the scope and scale of EVE, but with a more tactical level than a strategic level of involvement.

The level of detail is beyond impressive and I like a lot of the ideas behind listed to give the player multiple options and pathways to play the game. However, I agree with Richard Cobbert from RPS that it's very possible some of the ideas may fall through the aptly titled Molyneux Gap. Although, I wouldn't mind if that stuff came out as later updates to the game.

It's being crowd sourced right now to prove to investors that people will pay for a PC-centric space sim. With the revival of X COM and now this, I'm very happy to see that the market is finally realizing that there are great ideas and IPs out there beyond Call of Battlefield 12.

AMAZING!

Freelancer was the last good space sim. Hopefully this one brings the genre back properly.

I've wondered for years why we haven't seen anything like Wing Commander or X-Wing/Tie Fighter. If its more tactical and dogfight based I might actually get a rig together that can run it... Especially since Roberts its doing it. Best part of Halo Reach was the space combat I'm surprised Microsoft didn't do anything with it.

I can still remember the squadron room in Wing Commander, right down to that damned drip the ceiling.

I demand Mark Hamill in my space sims!

I also liked the space combat in Reach.

Should give Black Prophecy a shot. F2P MMO space shooter. While not as tactical as It should be, it's still pretty fun dogfighting in zero g.
