I'd like to replace the stereo in my 07 Altima, but the integrated system and dash look tricky. I suspect others have done this already. I see a lot of stuff about upgrading the Bose sound system, but not much about actually replacing the head unit with something that will do more. I'd like to have satillite radio without using the auxillary input, I'd prefer to just leave my iPod connected to that.

The speakers look easy enough to swap out and while I haven't gotten crazy about checking it out, I suspect there's enough room under the seats to drop an amp under there. That head unit though.... I just dunno.

Thanks for whatever advice you have

Use this Metra kit for the dash: http://item.express.ebay.com/2...sItem

Just to let you know, the front speakers are listed as 6.5", but standard 6.5's will not fit. The stock speakers are Blaupunkt's which come in it's own bracket which is much larger than the standard 6.5's. You will have to drill new holes to mount the new speakers.

Alpine 9887 with a changer in the glove box. plug your iPod into the input built into the unit and you have everything you had from the factory but better. The head unit controls your iPod in case you didnt already know that.

You can make a 6.5 inch sit in that slot pretty easy with no metal cutting using the factory 'ring' the other speaker is a part of. Or build a wooden ring in 5 minutes to raise your 6.5 inch out of the way of the window. Pull the BOSE, your ears will thank you.

The speaker bracket ring is actually the speaker itself. The speaker cannot be pulled out of the bracket because it is all one piece. I'm pretty sure the 04's are different from the 07's because mine cannot be replaced. I just lined with dynamat, used self-tapping screws and drilled my own holes. It's as simple as that.

You are correct sir ...... its the same as what i pulled out of mine. I never explained myself correctly. Cut the other speaker out and use the ring. Torch and an exacto knife. Heat the knife, cut , heat the knife cut. pain in the ***. Just do the wood rings. A protractor and a jigsaw along with a non alcoholic beverage to keep a steady hand.

haha cool! Thanks for the pic. I actually thought about doing that myself but thought it would be way too much work, which you now reconfirmed that it was I was happy just dynamating and drilling new holes in my door. Still sounds just as good, but not as clean looking. But then again, who drives around with their door panels off anyway

when using the metra kit, how do you take off the old center console? I have a d3 on the way and looking to install it maybe by the end of this weekend.

This is the best tutorial you'll ever find on how-to, courtesy of Metra: http://documents.victorytechno...3.pdf
