Alright got the SUV on the track to being back on the road.

I have it running at first turn of the key now. We had some cold weather (1* without windchill) and I started it up to give it some juice since it hasnt been driven in a while.

Once the vehicle is warmed up the RPM's will jump around and it will eventually stall. It starts right back up, but will stall again. It sounds like its misfiring, but no codes are going off. Im thinking distributor may be my issue or the MAF. Any way to figure this out? Its driving me nuts getting a ride from the old lady to work.

I would try to check the resistance of the engine coolant temperature sensor - see EC-142 for resistance values. The ECTS wiring harness plug location is on the previous page. Just check it still connected to the engine and see if it's in the 20C range of resistance values. If it's no good, replace it.

From the looks of it that sensor is in the passenger side of the engine block up near the oil fill cap?

Finally got a chance to get outside while snow was melting. It is 35* out and the coolant temp sensor resistance was 5.5-5.52 ohms. Definitely needs replaced?

Not necessarily, if the resistance values are linear, that's about double what it should be at 68F at roughly half the temp. It might still be alright. I guess you'd have to measure at a higher temperature to know for sure. Would it be possible to measure when the coolant is warmed up, with the engine off of course?

I can do that. May be a few days. We are getting nailed by freezing temps and rain.

Had an appointment tomorrow to have it diagnosed for $68.

Before dropping it off I went to go in reverse to take my stuff out and drop it in the garage. As soon as I put the truck in reverse it stalled out. I let it run for a few minutes and warm up. Then putting it in reverse wasnt an issue. Im thinking some kind of stupid sensor somewhere.

Aside from that when in gear once I hit 35 MPH RPM's jump to about 3500. At which point if I leave the throttle in it will shift to second. Then as Im driving in second I get up to about 50MPH and the RPM's at 4000 if I leave the throttle there it will shift into third slowly. Takes a few seconds at those RPM's to get it to shift. Its almost like its lacking power in those ranges to get it to shift.
