Man - I am hoping someone out there can help me out. I have a 2000 I30 with 122K miles. I just replaced my O2 sensors, but it is starting to stall on me now. Mainly when I have it in PARK or NEUTRAL, but the last few days it has begun stalling while in DRIVE. My check engine light is not on. Mass Air Flow Sensor? I tried cleaning it but it hasn't helped.

Help me if you can!

I would try cleaning the IAC (Intake Air Control) valve.

Also, have you done your 120K recommended service?

Cleaned the IAC and no luck. MAS???

Also - dumb question, but shouldn't my fan be running all the time? While under the hood cleaning the IAC I noticed the fan was not on. Any ideas why or does it only come on when needed???

Hi, I've got an 01 Maxima Se with 142k miles and I've just changed the 02 sensors too. Mine was stalling and dropping revs at idle too. The mechanics said that it could be the MAF sensor or injectors. First they took the cheapest route and soaked the injectors and cleaned them out....this seems to have worked for me. The car has more power and doesn't stall anymore.Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I will try the route of the injectors first - is this something I can do myself?

Not that this is the sure answer, but every Max that I've run into that has stalling issues ends up having a bad MAF. Including my own. Check on maxima.org

The fans only come on when needed. And only one will come on if you're not running your a/c.

If it's not hot enough, the primary fan won't kick in.

I'm interested in this injector soaking procedure too. Anyone with experience doing this?

Welcome to NICO!

Btw, there is no need for him to go on another forum. Everything he needs can be found right here.

Thank you! I didn't mean to check on maxima.org for solutions, but for used MAF's

Thanks to all of you - you are an incredible help. So today, my SES light comes on, Advance Auto says the code is P0174 - Fuel Injection System Too Lean. Is that the MAS? I just replaced O2 sensors.

Thanks again

Check to see if it's the maf because they tend to go bad on 5gen maxima. Not sure if that apply to I30 also though.

Just wondering if you know what your mechanic soaked your fuel injectors and how they cleaned it. I think I may have the same problem would love to try it out. Thank You

Thanks to all of you for your help. I am going to try replacing the MAS. Hopefully it works as the car is now stalling from time to time even in DRIVE while stopped at an intersection. Pretty annoying!

This is another dumb question, but I have a new problem. I needed to replace my serpentine belt and now have that awful squeal when I start my car. How do I know how tight to tighten the tension screw or could the squealing be caused by something else?

The belt squealing could be caused by the belt being too loose or worn out. Inspect the belt for cracks going across the ribs of the belt.

For instructions on how far to tighten the belt check page MA-13 here. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/i30/2001/ma.pdf

Check the following first;

1) Plastic shields under your car might be off. Maybe some grease fromthe road got on your belt

2) Check the deflection of the belts . On my 1995, it should be 1/4to 1/2 generally. Should be in your owners manual.

Get this; The belt from my 1998 maxima squeeled only when it was wet.I procrastinated checking it but finally did. Some @#$& idiot had cutthe plastic shield under the fenderwall and water was getting on mybelts, alternator every time it rained. YOUR CANT TRUST ANYBODYwith your car anymore. I made a custom duct tape-calk-aluminum foilpatch to fix it.
