Just looking for some confirmation of my suspicions...

On the way to Indy, the Q started to drop speed. I tried resetting the cruise, then the RPMs dropped and it died. Put it in neutral, started it up, and it was fine.

Then on the way home it died once right after starting at a rest area, and had a hard time restarting (took three tries). Then it was fine all the way home.

I suspect FPCU or fuel pump. Agree?

Thanks!-Jesda

No odd humming. No burnt pins.

The pins on my toasted controller were fine - in my case the internal components that look like transistors were shot. The next time you have a no-start condition, squeeze your fuel line (the one with the filter) and see if it's pressurized. That will tell you a lot.

The same thing happened to me on the highway. It was the fuel pump.

FPCU died an hour ago. I (#$@#$@#$) left my alligator clip in my toolbox at home. I walked to a radio shack, bought a speaker wire, two alligator clips, and a set of pliers. Grounded the FPCU line and drove home. *sigh*

Damn, sorry to hear of that Jesda. But question...I know this is probably covered somewhere if I just do a search, but how did you figure out so quickly that the FPCU was the problem and not the FP? I hear the humming from my trunk intermittently and also get the sputters, stalls, and the last time I had a no start was maybe 3 months ago. I know those are all fuel pump related and I also know if I wait too long then I'll need an fpcu as well. I'm just wondering if you DON'T hear the humming, but have the symptoms, how do you determine what the problem is?

If the pump died and not the FPCU, attaching an alligator wire would not have allowed me to start the vehicle and go home.Last time a pump died on me, it was making all kinds of loud buzzing/humming sounds under acceleration. The new OEM pump is about 20k and one year old. It makes no funny sounds. It might be time to remove and clean the fuel tank and fuel pump anyway.

Question for Jesda, or anyone else that has replaced their FPCU

How much did you pay for the FPCU? My own job is quoting me $515 for the part. While I know it's expensive I'm sure SOMEBODY has gotten one cheaper than that. I haven't tried Joe yet but I may give that a shot. My job would disown me for buying at another dealer - but what they don't know won't hurt.
