If it runs fine MOST of the time. Then don't mess with the carb. I think this is a fuel problem (or maybe an electrical one).
Check:
1. The fuel pump. It might be pumping less than it should
2. or . . . the fuel pump might have a bad power wire or bad ground.
3. a bad fuseable link. I had a loose connection on one of my fuseable links and my truck would just cut off anytime it wanted to. Always unexpected and then without reason it would start again. It was simply a wire that was connected, then not, then connected again, but I never could find it. Of course I did find it eventually.
4. The fuel filter could be plugged up so badly (at the carb) that the carb bowl empties out because of restricted filling. See the carb rebuild post but only work on the filter at the carb bowl fill tube.
