Any help narrowing down the problem would be very appreciated.

I have driven this truck for about 2 months with no issues and in the last 2 weeks I have stalled 4 times while driving down the road. The stall happens after the truck is warm and while I am at speed. This is not an issue while I am starting from a stop.

While driving the rpm dips very low, then seems to rev and then die. Clogged channel in the carb?

I'm not really sure where to start the trouble shooting. I am thinking I need to clean and tune the carb but I want to make sure I have eliminated other issues before I tackle that beast!

The truck is an 84 720 4x4 5-speed.

Thanks so much

If it runs fine MOST of the time. Then don't mess with the carb. I think this is a fuel problem (or maybe an electrical one).
Check:
1. The fuel pump. It might be pumping less than it should

2. or . . . the fuel pump might have a bad power wire or bad ground.

3. a bad fuseable link. I had a loose connection on one of my fuseable links and my truck would just cut off anytime it wanted to. Always unexpected and then without reason it would start again. It was simply a wire that was connected, then not, then connected again, but I never could find it. Of course I did find it eventually.

4. The fuel filter could be plugged up so badly (at the carb) that the carb bowl empties out because of restricted filling. See the carb rebuild post but only work on the filter at the carb bowl fill tube.

fastboatman29212 thanks for the reply. I will stay away from the carb for any major work. I didn't want to get into that if I didn't have to.

I will check the ground on the fuel pump and look into the fuel filter at the carb. I recently replaced the filter before the pump next to the tank.

I really like this truck but talk about frustrating when you keep stalling for no apparent reason! One of these days I will quit making the drivers behind me mad...

Thanks again

I do believe that my issue lies in the fuel filter relay. I found a post about this mysterious relay and that is the box that I hear clicking sometimes. I didn't know what it was until I found that post. I took the relay out and cleaned some of the rust from the back of the circuit board and reinstalled. We will see what the next couple days hold.

Thanks again

Read this link! It's a fuel pump relay - NOT a fuel filter relay.
