ok my friend just got his S13 swapped 2 days ago. We changed the oil, put lube in the transmission, fixed his power steering and all the normal maintenance stuff but his car has been idling like crap. He doesnt have an air filter box(dont know why) when he got his car back from the shop, so we had to fabricate an intake filter to fit his MAS air attachment. When i looked at the inside of the attachment it looked to be corroded like white chalky spots on the inside. Could that be the reason of the rough idle? and also the piping that goes to the turbo where the sensor is connected is sensitive, when you try to move or bend the piping or anyhting, it wants to stall. Once the filter was fabricated the car wouldnt start, it would start then immediatly stall, whats up with that? So hes driving with no filter and cant drive with one. someone help please!!! also his car shuts off when he hits the brakes after a period of driving. whats that all about??? thanks!!

does it rev over 2000-2500? If not, then the MAFS is probably to blame.

Sounds like the possibility of a major boost leak somewhere. Is that SMIC in good condition?

You adjust the idle with a screwdriver (preferably flathead). There is a little plastic screw on the Intake Manifold between the 3rd and 4th cylinders (toward the firewall). Clockwise raises the idle.

I agree with Buud, it sounds like a problem with the MAFS or a boost leak. Possibly even both.

I have had problems with both recently (luckily 10 second fixes). One of my MAFS wires came loose and the car idled up and down like a rollercoaster. When I has the boost leak it was bacause a friend of mine didnt tighten one of the hot pipe clamps and pop, out it went. Talk about a serious boost leak, I was revving it at like 4000 to keep it from stalling till I could get off the road.
