hey guys, question for ya--I installed a HKS SSQ BOV on my rb20det motor. I few days later I noticeed my idle jumping, ,btw 900-2200 (240sx tach). Tonight on my way home car will not idle, ,stalls out on me. I can still start the car, it will rev up to about 2 grand then stall back out unless i keep tapping the gas. When I was driving I could not take it over 2500, but when in idle, had no problem revving up??? IM LOST!

Plan to reset the ecu tomorrow.Reinstall stock BOVCheck MAF connections

Any other opinions?

Thanks

Forgot to say, blows black smoke out the back--running to rich?

I have a HKS SAFR--you guys think that might fix the problem?>

put your hand over the bov and see if the idle changes... or just swap the stock bov back in its place and reconnect it to the intake, its designed to work with the air recirculating into the the intake after the maf. less air = rich mixture.

YOU CANNOT USE ATMOSPHERIC BLOW OFF VALVES ON MAF CARS WITHOUT SACRIFICING DRIVABILITY!!!!

I DONT KNOW HOW MANY TIMES WE GOTTA COVER THIS?!?!?!

IS IT WORTH THE HASSLE TO "SOUND COOL"?

I dont knwo why people gotta keep doing this garbage....the ECU uses the signal from the MAF to know how much air is getting pumped into the engine. It takes that information and dumps fuel based on the quantity of air it thinks the engine is getting.

When you leak that air from the intake pipes, whether from boost leak or ATMOS BOV, you will end up WAY RICH. the ECU thinks that air is still int he intake tract & give it fuel to match the MAF's airflow....not what actually enters the intake plenum.

I HOPE this is the last thread on this.

Your BOV is killing you. If you want an upgrade get a 1gen DSM BOV and a longer vacuum line. Stronger spring.

I reconnected the stock BOV but the problem still exists. When driving it wont go over 3 grand, but at idle it will?

A blown turbo wouldnt cause this would it?the reason i ask is because well i cant go over 3 grand, so therefore i have no boost?

It's either your maf (very very likely) or your tps.

Check the maf connections and trace each wire to the ecu, it causes the low rev limit.

ALso, check the tps and make sure the wires are all good. If the plug that comes off the back of it with 3 prongs (right on the sensor) aren't all doing what they're supposed to it will do the same thing.

This has been covered so many times... ECU goes into limp mode when the MAF is bad. Check your clamps to the rubber tube that connects the maf and turbo and check the return lines. Any leaks will cause bad idle. Try and add spacers to your BOV. Sounds like the bov isn't closing all the way.

Check sensor voltages. If the ecu isn't throwing a code, that's really the only way to find a problem.

Keep that stockie on there untill you figure it out.

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciated

anyone have a problem with a "studder" when you hit about 5 grand? This is my problem--my stock BOV makes a lot of more boost than my HKS? ,like 5 psi more, yet when I get into the 5 grand range there is a studder, whereas the HKS doesnt have the studder but doenst produce as much boost?

If your BOV is producing or changing boost levels, then you have problems..

Just came back from driving---the studder only occurs under higher boost ex 10psi????

Do it with the stock BOV or no? Put the stocker on there and if it changes than your BOV is leaking.-Alex
