Hey guys. I just got back from a 2 week vacation and during that time my Q45 has not been driven. I started driving it again today and it now has a ignition miss every now and then and it also likes to stall right after a turn. Its not always a turn, but it seems that after I'm cruising, if I approach a stop or a turn and complete the manuever about 2 seconds afterwards it stalls. Any thoughts? I don't have any time to check it out tomorrow so I thought that before I tear into it I would see if anyone else has had a similar issue. The car has been fairly well maintained since I got it and has never given me any problems with stalling. All filters have been changed, all injectors have been ohm checked. I have a bad feeling that its going to be a stressed or corroded wire or connector somewhere. Would a bad connection on a AFM do that? Anyways I'll get into checking it tomorrow night and hopefully figure it out quickly, its not cool to have your car shut off on the road! Any insight is appreciated, thanks!

It sounds like a MAF issue to me. Wiggle the connector while the car is running. Heck, just carefully pull the connector anyway and clean the contacts. An occasional miss at speed and stalling on decelleration are typical symptoms of a bad MAF.

You might try cleaning the element according to these instructions:

You might just need a new (used) one. There's a ton of info in old threads. Search for MAF in the Q45 and Infiniti Online Mechanic forums. Be sure to choose "post bodies" and try both "archived" and "recent".

Check the MAF connector, but I would run a couple of bottles of ISO-HEET if your tank was not full or you are not using Tier 1 Premium.

Change the fuel filter recently (less than a year)? If ISO-HEET clears it up, change immediately.

Thanks for the replies! I'm beginning to lean towards the problem being with the MAF plug and wires so I'll start there tonight. The car had a problem with those wires when I first got it and I thought that I had taken care of it but maybe it came back. The fuel filter was just changed about a month ago so it shouldn't be that. I'll see if I can figure it out tonight, thanks guys!

Is the stall-out less common on a full tank of gas?

Almost sounds like the pump is sucking air whenever the fuel in the tank gets sloshed away from the fuel pickup (with the resultant air bubble reaching the engine a few seconds later).

Improper installation of the pickup after a fuel pump replacement, perhaps?

ISO-HEET is the easiest cheapest first step.

Hey guys! Well it turned out to be the MAF wiring. When I bought the car and got it working, I noticed that the previous owner had messed up the wiring going to the air flow meter. It didn't work right when I first put the car together so I had to redo one of the wires to get it to work. I guess that I got lazy and never bothered to correctly fix the problem, so we fixed it correctly (new plug with new wires) and the car runs perfect now. Thanks for the input, I'm glad that the car is working now, its such a fun car to drive . Thanks guys!
