I was looking at getting the Apexi N1 dual (I have been working 11 hour days 6 days a week and have some money saved :rolleyes ) but everyone says that i should get a stainless steel exhaust instead of a powder coated exhaust for that much money.

I was just wondering what is the quality of a powder coated exhaust vs a stainless steel exhaust. I live in vancouver, canada so we dont get much snow, but we do get rain and they occasionally salt the road.

Thanks for any help :D

hah, if you powdercoat an exhaust, the powdercoat will melt off.. powdercoating is sort of a wax (use your mind).. that coats the entire surface area, and then its heated, and melted onto the surface.. so if you powdercoat the exhaust, it wont be worth it, unless you never drive the car.

I am sorry. I do not know the terminalogy but I should have been more clear. On the apexi site it says "Piping is treated with high-temperature titanium particle coating". I dod not mean powder coating as in painting it. Soory for the confusion.

So, are you saying that this treatment or other similar treatments would be useless? Should i look at getting a stainless steel exhaust?

If I'm right, this should be similar to ceramic coating on hotshot headers. This is a good thing for heat - It either lets it dissipate more quickly or keeps it in so that the velocity of the gases stay the same.

I'm sorry I don't know exactly, it's been a while since I've learned about that on this board.

haha, but it's a good thing :).

Ummm...no. Here's a quick explanation of how powder coating works:

There are, in fact, powder coats specifically designed for high temperature applications, like headers, exhausts, etc. The bigger issue, as far as I know, would be resistance to corrosive stuff like road salt. I honestly don't know if a powder coated exhaust would hold up better here in the rust belt than a stainless one, but I'm personally leaning towards stainless steel.

...is the same as saying high temp paint.

And it will hold up just fine.

I had the N1 for 5yrs. non-SS version. It finally rusted. not bad tho. BTW this is in chicago winters too, so they salt the streets like a mofo.

This time I am getting a SS catback.
