This time last year I was riding around in a 96 infiniti i30 sitting on 18x8 platinum type 84/85 snyper rims . At the end of last year I found a nice size gouge on the inside of one of the rims, rendering the set useless.

This year I've upgraded to a 04 infiniti i35 and I'm thinking of throwing 2 of the 18s on the front and buying a pair of the same rims except for 20x8.5 and slap those on the rear.

Now i'm looking for opinions on my little idea and/or pictures if anyone has already done work like this.

18 on the front and 20 on the rear would likely really mess up your ride quality. A 2 inch size difference between front and rear would also be quite noticeable.

Welcome to the club!

It might look good, but with different size rims, remember that you can't rotate your tires. Also, because of the different sizes, the resale value on your rims is limited to none should you decide you want to make a change.

Note: You'll find that most Infiniti owners here on our site prefer to represent Infiniti for what it really is - a sophisticated brand of luxury vehicles. You won't find much talk of 20inch rims, neons, carbon fiber hoods, NOS stickers etc. You're more likely to find threads about how to maintain/tweak what we already have.

do you have any suspension upgrades? the difference is size won't look good if the car doesn't have the right stance

I really haven't done any modding to my car, mostly cause I'm not very car savvy combined with the fact that I've only had the car for a little over 2 months now. But, what type of suspension upgrades are we talking about here?

As far as the rims; I'm already at a loss with having only 3 out of 4 old(er) 18 inch rims in working order. Which is the reason I thought up the idea of using this as an opportunity to try something completely out of the ordinary (staggered rims on a hehe FWD vehicle).

stagging that size difference 18/20 will throw off your speedo also
