Not a good idea at all! The AWD system is particularly sensitive to mis-matched wheel sizes and rotation.

You must use the same size wheels (note that I did not say stock wheels - you can change wheels if you want,as long as they are identical) and the same brand/model/size of tires.

Remember that even different brands/models of tires - even the same size - may have slightly different turns-per-mile rotation when actually on the car.

Mismatched rotations can lead to premature wear-and-tear of the AWD system, and also cause systems inside the car to get confused abut wheel slip at the very least.

Bottom line: the X model must not use staggered wheel configurations at all, let alone even mismatched wheel/tire combinations.

I'm running staggered on my 06 M35x. I put staggers on it at 12K, and now I'm at 123k with no problems at all.
I also had staggers on my 04 FX35 awd, and put 143k on it. When ever I take my car to the dealership for maintenance my awd system always check out fine.
It's not the width of the rim that can mess with your awd, it's the circumference of the wheel. I'm running 20x8.5 in the front, and 20x10 in the back. In order to keep the circumference the same in the front, and back, I'm running 245/35, and 285/30. All 4 wheels are traveling at the same speed over the same distance.

My brother is on his 2nd Evo running staggers, and almost half of the guys in his car club have the same setup with problem.

Most people here will tell you not to do it, but from my own experience, and being around a lot of other people that run staggered on their awd cars.........I would say that as long as your wheel circumference are the same you will not have any problem.
