Ok guys, I'm bout ready to buy some aftermarket cams, but wondering a few things. I've read that staggered durations, shorter durations on the intake and longer on the exhaust side build more power than running same duration cams on a turbo motor.

I've seen this alot on American turbo'ed muscle cars and I'm pretty sure it makes a difference there but whether or not it'll make that much of a difference on a Japanese motor I've yet to see. I was originally thinking about getting 264in/264ex with 10.5mm lift/10.0mm lift but after talking to my local race shop I'm considering getting 256/264's but these guys do alot of domestics and not imports. Any ideas or suggestions guys?

I have tried most of them. 232 232, 248248, 240 248, 248 232. The 232 232 just sucks balls, the 248 248 is good for top end power but you loose some lowend, the 240 248 found in 91 s13's is my favorite so far and got the most well rounded gains, I tried the 248 232 recently but didn't really like the results. I switched back to the 240 248 set up and I definitely like it better and for the money you can beat it. I seriously think Nissan had planned to turbo the KA at some point but never did it obviously, the larger exhaust side cam, oil squirters, and forged internals seem to suggest this theory..

One of the guys in my car club Jeff (brage) just swapped the 240 248 cams in to his s14 kat ditching the 232 232 set up and gained nearly 20whp I think. I think the hot rod guys know what they are doing when the bigger cam is on the exhaust side.

Cool. Alrighty looks like I'll be getting the 256/264's for my sr. Looks like those lazy domestic whores at the race shop are good for something lol

Why? It isn't really any cheaper. Regrinds require reshimming and other complications. Kind of a hidden cost. That is why they seem cheaper in theory. Just cough up the cash and buy JWT, proven power and literally a bolt in affair. Use the s13 cams until you can upgrade.
