Stable at 220

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Just thought I would share my experiences on the autobahn in western Germany of late.

Work has taken me a few times to Dusseldorf and from Amsterdam this is a nice 2.5 hour or so drive. The limit in the Netherlands is 120 kph, but once we hit the Germany border all limits are off. Having grown up in the US and after spending 11 years in Japan, it took a while getting used to unlimited motorways. But after feeling the car out for a while at 160-170 kph (100-110 mph) range and marveling at how solid and quiet the EX37 is, it was time to her stretch her legs.

With a colleague on board we flirted with 220 kph for mile after mile and I must say for an AWD CUV sort of thingy it is an amazing car to drive at these speeds. Nissan/Infiniti have done a great job of tuning the car and keeping it quiet and stable at this speed.

One a different trip back to Amsterdam from Germany with wife, parents, 2 dogs and luggage loaded in the EX, I played touch and go with a Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins. I was amazed that he was driving in the range of 160-170 with such a huge truck. At one point when he was going to over take me in the left lane, I shoved the pedal down and watched him disappear in the mirrors as I hit 220 with the car completely loaded. Not surprising, but fun as hell for sure.

I wish more members had the chance to come to Europe to test the real capabilities of our rides, and may some of my stories be the impetus you need to make the trip. FYI, Hertz at Amsterdam airport has Infinitis so you can rent from there and then try them out on the autobahn...

Hey lolo300zx,
nice to read about your expierence.
Mid march i made a trip from Hamburg to north Italy, about 1200km. Even my 3.5L US version is amazing! I had an average of 180 and peak of 220! And fun starts from 5k-6k rpm. Unfortunately, they got me twice with 25 above limit 200€ that I could spend on something else...however that was great fun!!

I don't need to go to Europe.

I've buried the needle over here, too.

The EX35 is a very stable Car at high speeds.

Now we just have to wait for all the do-gooders to come on here and say we shouldn't be driving at these high speeds, you're gonna kill somebody, blah, blah, blah...

Find a Whale to save, OK ?

As long as you are the only one that gets hurt or dies if something goes wrong drive as fast as you want.

The nice thing about driving in Germany is you can relax and not worry about loosing your license. After a few days 160KPH+ seems like a normal commute.

In Oregon if they pop you above 100 they can arrest you on the spot, have your car towed, and jerk your licenses for 90 days. I was rolling along I-5 in my C6 Corvette and got laser gunned at 96 which sort of take some of the fun out of having a really fast car. A year later I sold the Vette partly because it was so boring to drive below 90 on the freeway.

Thanks y'all and completely agree about the tickets.

The Dutch and their damn speed cameras have stolen money from me 3 different times in just 7 months of living here. The EX doesn't help either because it is tough to tell how fast you are driving some times and then I end up with another 75 EUR fine.

But the worst one I had was in Japan where I had a Skyline 370GT (G37) and got done for doing 101 in a 50. Camera had me dead nuts and this lost me my license for 90 days and cost me $1000 in fines.

Oh well, just need to look forward to my next trip to Germany and make myself smile at over 200.

Enjoy the weekend.

I've had mine in excess of 140 Mph and with my much wider 235 series "Super High Performance" rubber on them and i just recently added the BT Tech Chassis Brace (Writeup to follow) and when i had my car realigned i had them dial in a little more caster and i've done a little mod to stiffen up my power steering so id have to restfully say I most likely have the most stable EX in here its pin straight and hands off at 110 easy.... and cake at 130+
Please do inquire if anyone has any questions
