I am looking to ditch my SSAC manifold and put the stock one back on. Reason is because the SSAC manifold actually touches the valve cover. Anyone else run into this issue? Also, if anyone can recommend an exhaust manifold that DOES fit properly, let me know.

Zach states that the CXRacing one is good. Check the ebay stickies. Dunno about clearance, but I guess the bends would differ from one to the another, even with generic Chinese brands.

Never seen or heard of this issue before, can you measure the thickness of the flange? You might have a defective one.

yea my ssac manifold also hit my valve cover so I ground the valve cover in that spot with a grinder. after powdercoat

is it hitting right where one of the fasteners go through the valve cover?

i feel more confident with a home made log style manifold then I would with an isis or an ss autochrome.

but good luck to you.

I too have had this issue, I had to grind the valve cover to get it too fit properly, on an ebay SS manifold that I purchased..(this was maybe four years ago)....

From memory I had to grind a tapered edge from about half way down the bolt housing and ascending upwards taking off close to 2mm at the end point.

On the valve cover, it was the long bolt section 2nd last one from the end that is closest to the boot (makes it 3rd cylinder runner? i think)

Pretty sure I am just going to use a die grinder with a carbide bit and port the stock cast iron one. I just don't feel comfortable with these cheap ones and don't really want to drop the $$$$ on a custom one-off TIG'd piece.

Pretty much all the SSAC manifolds touch the valve cover, youll have to grind the cover down.

But ive since decided to go back to the stock manifold, quicker spool times FTW!

I also had this problem. My fix was to throw it in the trash and go back to stock.

Most of those Mickey Mouse manifolds are garbage. I personally had one shiny top mounts on my 240 and fitment was an issue, to start. The turbo was too big and the manifold leaned it too much towards the strut tower. Solution, modified the collector and leaned the turbo back towards the exhaust valve cover. Next issue, I don't use tial wastegates, but I have a love for the hks 40mm pieces, so i modded the dump area to suit the HKS gate (bad move).

At idle and normal driving, everything was happy. But when I took for long hauls (20+miles) and put some thrust through it, it cracked and I welded and braced it and it cracked some more. So I snatched it out for the last time, broke down, and my friend who's really good at making manifolds make me another @ the cost $900+. He's expensive, but his work makes up for it and no more labor loss and repairing junky manifolds.

Shocked to hear about the fitment issues, everyone has heard of the cracking BS associated with these but i've never heard about them hitting the valve cover.

3 years going strong, no cracking, oem fitment. Plus i love seeing that prick glow red hot on the dyno.

You guys that are using the T2 manifolds shouldn't be experiencing too many problems. The top mounts suck; at least the two that I've installed did and they seem to have cracked-up in the same place (two different cars, two different turbos). If you are using the T2 small turbochargers, then you shouldn't be experiencing too many problems, but then again shyt happens. But for the bigger turbochargers, good luck.

My SS manifold ordered from XS Racing of ebay, but I know that it's made in China, It fits pretty well except require minor grind on the manifold stud and on the A/C pump rack,I'm still using it without cracking since 2006 ( I have reinforced the T25 flange), with stock engine mount and stock exhause mount, sometime clutch kicking to initial drift (but not very often).Pictures are herehttp://www.cardomain.com/ride/3248363/2
