i did a quick search for users posting about their ss autochrome exhaust systms. i found just what i thought i would: a bunch of people saying the headers suck.

so... have any of you had any experience with ss autochrome's cat-backs? i know their headers are junk and their customer service is non-existent, but the exhaust is cheap and i think it'd be pretty hard to screw that up. i could be wrong though. even if it need some modification, i think it might still be worth it.

here's a link:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT

do any of you use this system (or very similar)? did you have any issues with the quality of the product? fitment? longevity? is it compatable with the sr20 swap? if this doesn't work out well, i'm probably going to go with megan racing.

thanks.

I've actually heard that they look pretty solid in person, some guy's selling an N1 style SSAC exhaust around here for like $200.

I mean, it's not going to look like a Titanium Fujitsubo for that price, but whaddya expect, it's two hundred bucks.

If they made one that wasn't an N1 style (Oval canister, single tip, 2.5" piping), I'd have bought one already. Why does everyone only make huge fartcan angled N1s?

not saying SSAC cat-back sucks or anything. i got a 3" bent system installed on my 240sx with a Magnaflow muffler and a 4" stainless tip for $275 out the door...

i was on another thread about the same topic. i asked if any one had bolted up three inch exhaust to stock catalytic converter on (ka24de). i got a few responses but nothing clean cut. two of them said it bolted right up no problem. my ? is how can 3inch pipe line up with 2.25 cat. does pipe have slots so you can cheat it to fit. does anyone know the anser.

so you had it welded to cat, please more detales. did bolts line up, i am realy interested in the install. because i want one. i had two built already one was just for stock 2.25 with just stock tail pipe i had resonaiter removed. before i new about stainless & larger sizes i had another pipe maid 2.25 with a cheap catback tip. factory weld on tip totaly gave out. now i am back to my stock one, glad i saved the hole setup. but i still want catback but i dont want to get burned again.

da40, where were you blowing welds? at the flanges?

sxcoupe, don't be a thread jacker dude. your comments have nothing to do with my original topic. i noticed you all ready have a thread dedicated to your question, so keep it out of mine. i'll answer your question in your thread.

sxcoupe: of course, no hard feelings. glad i could help - afterall, that's what we're here for. i might be a rookie poster here, but i'm a contributing member/moderator on several other auto-forums and nothing bothers me quite like thread pirates.

so back on topic. the count now is 2 for ssac and 1 against. please, anyone else wish to comment?

I've been rockin the 3in Dual Tip and for the $140 it was money well spent. TachyonS14 has the sound of his in the Multimedia section and his car sounds like a WRX. I thought mine would sound similar but with High Flow Cat and Headers it doesn't sound similar. Still a Deep Tone though I recommend.

Yeah I started that post about the cat bolting up to the 3inch exhaust. Well, to give you a short sweet answer, there is absolutely no modication nessesary to install the 3inch cat back ssac exhaust to ur car. As for the exhaust, I love it. It is definitely not quite though, its quite loud but it was worth the money hands down.

I bought a divorced chamber dump pipe from those idiots and they forgot to make the divorced chamber go all the way through. So my turbo almost blew itself up when I put the pipe on the car.

all right, well i'm convinced enough to give it a shot. if the welds start to give, i've got places i can have it re-welded for cheap. also, if it's too loud, i can always have a resonator welded in there somewhere. i'll let everyone know how it works out when i get a chance to throw it on. thanks for all the replies.

go to a muffler shop get a straight 2.5" piping with just am muffler no cat or resonator. and there you go most flow for the money and will last! For just 200 bucks custom piping and a nice sound also the guy did the inspection for me so its "legal"

I've got the SSA single on my S13 with a test pipe. Its loud, but very deep, and the finish/ wellds look great. Considering you can buy them on ebay for 200-250 shipped its a much better option then a custom muffler shop otion for a couple reasons. #1 its stainless so you do nt have to worry about rust, and #2 mandrel bends .

well, the exhaust was at my door pretty fast - 4 days after i ordered it to get to michigan from carolina. i was quite impressed with the time they put into packaging the system. everything was covered in bubble wrap and taped. then the ends of the pipes, the muffler, and the hangers were wrapped in foam and taped. then it was put in the box filled with packing peanuts.

after i got it unpackaged (took about 20 minutes), i looked it over. it looks pretty solid. all the hangers are sturdy looking and all the welds look fine. the muffler doesn't look like it will do much for muffling the engine. i'm not sure how much help the "silencer" will do.

anyways, i'll be installing the catback either this weekend or next and will comment on my initial thoughts afterwards. then a few weeks later i'll post again with some final thoughts on the purcahse. also, i'll get some pictures up here soon too.

all right, i've been super busy and actually forgot about this thread. i'll update now...

the old exhaust was rusted far to much for me to attempt to install the catback myself, so i just took it to the local muffler shop and let them do it. $50 and 20 minutes later it was on and ready to roll. the guys at the shop commented on how perfect the fitment was. i guess aftermarket exhausts aren't normally that easy to install because the hangers don't always line up properly or they have to cut/bend something to make it fit right. but this was an absolutely perfect fit.

as far as the sound goes: superb. it has a nice deep tone at idle and cruise. it does get a little raspy when you get on it hard, but the sound is great. my only complaint is that when i'm cruising with the top up, the sound is extremely irritating at certain higher rpm before shifting. when the top's down, it's not so bad.

the silencer... that's a piece of crap. it rattles when you put it in so i just leave it out. it does do a considerable amount of added muffling though. i have some pictures that i can post later. i'll also try to get a quick sound clip with my mp3 player.

The SSA exhaust is made by a company called Motoria. They also build the exhausts for Uras. If it's the n1 style.

yeah, it's been a while, but i figure i can upload the pictures and the soundclip. i've had a few people ask me for them recently. the sound clips aren't that great, but it gives you an idea. i'll say, it sounds WAY better in person. the mp3 player i used to record it muffled the sound quite a bit. and the backfiring was due to a failing injector. it doesn't do that anymore.

it's been a couple months now and i still don't have any complaints. except... my fiance hit it driving out of a steep driveway and put a dent on the bottom oh well. stuff happens. oh yeah... it's rattling somewhere when i'm stopped at a light. i haven't figure out where it's coming from, but i'm assuming that it's the rear tow-hook. it never rattles while i'm driving, and it's not loud at all. just a slight rattle.

in conclusion, i would recomend this cat-back. great price, perfect fitment, good quality, nice sound; what else could you ask for? it even looks good.

Dex,

thanks for the updates.

I've got the dual ones, but you're lucky that your listing came w / a lifetime warranty.

my dualies are w/ a 30 day warranty only. same eBay seller. cheaper price than what you paid for the single.

still awaiting for the arrival, but @ least I know what to expect.
