So here is the update on the story. I had an SRS light go on because my garage was getting renovated so that valets park our car the whole week therefore i went to go get my battery checked. In the process of running the check the light went away.

Someone in this forum mentioned that i may have reset my error codes by somehow disconnnecting the battery when checking it. I dont think this happened because none of the TRIP stuff was reset.

At any rate 300+ miles later i went to get my windows tint. And the guy left the doors opens for 3hours+ and the door lights were on. Once i got my car back the SRS was back on.

I tried the battery test thing again, but it didnt work. I tried to disconnect my batteries but that didnt reset the SRS light either. For some reason disconnecting the battery does not erase any of the TRIP/MPG/etc info.

The dealer wants $92.50 to reset the light. If i knew there was something wrong i think it would be worth it, but the fact that the light is there sometimes and not others makes me feel like this would be a waste of money. I hope i can reset and observe, to try and establish the fact taht there is a problem with my airbags before i start spending hundreds of dollars on it.

However, the light is annoying the hell out of me. So i was wondering if any one found a way to access the MES (memory erase system)?

Clutchkick? You seem to know everyhting about these Ms (i know there are others here who know just as much) Do you know how to access whatever it is i need to access the error codes.

PS the secret diagnosis menu shows no error. (preplexes me even more)

Usually the lights go on only when there is a hard fault... They do not stay on all the time...

When the Consolt II reads the codes it will mention how many "Trips" ago the fault was... Each trip is by how many car starts ago the code was triggered...

Usually the SRS warning light comes on when it is a fault with the air bag system or wiring harness within the system...

MOST of the parts that trigger the SRS light are covered under your POWERTRAIN warranty or extended warranty... Powertrain warranty is longer than standard warranty... I can check your warranty coverage by your VIN if you need...

Dealers will ask for authorization of atleast 1 hour’s labor to pull codes etc... This is to keep you from getting the car diagnosed from an "Expert" and taking it somewhere else to get the work fixed...

Most likely, this is going to be covered under warranty... If that is the case, they will not charge the hour’s labor that was authorized since the technician will be paid the diagnostic time along with the warranty repair...

I hope this helps... Let me know if you have any other questions!

^ thanks a bunch i wasnt aware that the SRS is covered under the powertrain. I mentioned this to me infiniti dealer and he confirmed it (despite not mentioning a word while knowing that my car is a 03 with 38k miles). Therefore they got me book for next week to get it checked out.

A trick with some dealers... If you bring your car in for an oil change and not mention a light is on, the "lube tech" will pull a code and tell the service writer, they will then try to sell you the warranty repair if it is covered under warranty, or give you an estimate if it is not covered...
