is there any difference (except sound) of just replacing the stock air filter with a K&N filter vs. getting a SRI?

i plan on getting the Stillen cat back exhaust eventually, so thats why the sound doesnt matter to me since the exhaust will take care of that aspect.

the drop in filter has, if i'm not mistaken, smaller filter surface area... and plus the resonator box and what not reduces a lot of the velocity needed for efficient air flow and intake... also, the location of the drop in filter is closer to the throttle body, hence most likely reducing much needed velocity as the air is diffused through the filter. for the most part, the intake is designed to provide efficient air flow into the motor as opposed to the drop in, which imo, is just a more porous, less restrictive filter.

so then an intake is a better option than the K&N drop in replacement filter?
