Hi, I'm toying with the idea of swapping a SR20 motor into my B210. I'm into modifieds and would like at least 1000bhp Ok, maybe that's a being ridiculous, but I'd like serious bhp. I know the stock SR20VET from the 1999/2000 X-Trail makes as much power as a stock RB26DETT. That would be a nice place to start but getting hold of the SR20VET is like finding water in the desert - it is out there somewhere but you just can't find it. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I'm thinking of trying to get a SR20VE cylinder head/intake/ECU/wiring harness, a DR20DET block and internals/aftermarket exhaust manifold, bigger turbo, Z32 MAF and S15 gearbox/differential. Any advice as to what to look for or problems with this set up?

Most VEs are FWD. I say most, but it may be all. I've heard that there may have been a VE in some version of the S15, in which case you'd be just about all set, but I don't know for sure. Hit up the RWD SR20DET forum to get better answers.

No need. No VE's in RWD trim.

Given the differences between the RWD and FWD blocks, I have to doubt that a VE head would mount up with a RWD DET bottom end as well, then. It's worth a look, I suppose.

No one (That I know) can say for certain But in theory all one would need to use an SR20VE head on a RWD SR20DET (at least the redtop) would be the ECU from SR20VET. Arguably just as difficult as finding the head.

The drivetrain layout has nothing to do with how a head will mate up with a block. The drivetrain layout mainly corresponds to where the engine mounts meet the engine.

There was a guy on here a few months ago that had a VE head on a DET block.

It is possible but comparing the RB26 to the VE is a bad comparison. Sure they both make relatively similar hp in stock trim. But the VE has been designed and tuned to squeeze just about amount of hp feasible while the RB26 is just at the beginning of where it can be tuned.

On a B210 I cant imagine a need for large amounts of HP. I would think 300-350 would be good enough for just about ANY driving. In which case a standard SR or CA could be made to produce that power.

But isn't the SR20VET only on 8 psi of boost? RB26 is almost on what? 14? Irregardless an SR20VET head will be more expensive and less efficient than a built SR20DET head. Plus a LOT harder to find.

Where did you get the 8 psi number from? I have yet to hear the actual stock boost on the VET, but thats not the point I was trying to make.

I was pointing out that a VET probably will not be able to handle much more power. There is very little aftermarket tuning for it. The RB can handle a good 5-600hp if tuned properly before certain parts will go out. I seriously doubt any stock Nissan SR will be enjoying that power for long.

I dunno where I got 8 from honestly. I could have sworn I heard it thrown out with the SR20VET somewhere but I couldn't cite a source. Agreed about the RB though. An RB would probably be cheaper than said VET too.
