b.s. firstwell, i don't post much on this board but i blew my ka24de head gasket a few months ago and have been looking at swaps. i first considered the sr20det but its too expensive and too done before. i then looked at the rb20det but it looked too complicating to do by myself. i finnaly considered ca18det. after calling around i called one place and they said they didn't have anything but a sr20ve. sr20ve? wtf? i looked up on it and its supposively something like vtec on a nissan. all motor power would be sweet but vvt with turbo sounds even better.

i've done some research and i found a page with a sr20ve in a 240sx.

http://babelfish.altavista.com...t=url(its in japanese so it'll have to be translated)

looks nice. says it uses a sr20de block with a sr20ve head (with cams and all) i was wondering if you guys think it would be possible to do this with the sr20det block and sr20ve head. sounds like a plan and something people haven't done. also sounds complicating.

ps. i'm looking for a ca18det or cheap sr20det. let me know if you know where i can get one or you have one to sell

the RB20DET is a retardedly easy swap. All you need is the front crossmember from the skyline front clip, I beleive teh easiest model years to be 90 to 93, and a set of electric fans. I completed this swap in 4 days. I pyut together Spec-V5150's car. When I got there he had all the wring disconnected and coolant drained. old KA24E was still in the car. and the engine was still in the clip. 4 days later we took it for a test drive. just swap out the front cross members and its a bolt in affair. the turbo DP even bolts up to the 240sx stock exhaust.

Email me if you need more detail

SR20VE motors are FWD only (im pretty sure) but the head can be swapped. They help sqeeze 187hp out of the NA sr up from 140hp. There is also the SR20VET found in JDM Xterras. They are 1999+, AWD (but can probably use a RWD transmission), rare and expensive BUT they do have "280" (wink wink nudge nudge) hp.

CA18DET is the easiest of all swaps out there so good luck and do what YOU want to do, not what other people think you should do.
