I literally just got my black top swap in my hatch and im looking to get to 350 to 400 horses. Im getting a new injectors, intake, intake manifold, headers, and z32 maf , and getting the car tuned but which turbo would get me best low end power yet pull hard enough for the power range im seeking?

Are you going with a T25 exhaust housing or a T3 exhaust housing? Those 2 turbo's are very similar, only a few mm difference in the compressor wheel. They will both be able to push enough volume to make lots of power. How much lag you have will be determined by what exhaust housing you plan on. There are lots of options.

If you're going with a T3 housing and the .82 AR you're going to have quite a bit of lag. I'm not an SR guy, but I'm fairly versed with turbo's. As a reference, I didn't hit full boost until 3200-3500 with a smaller turbo on my KA, which has 25% more displacement.

If you don't mind a bit of lag that turbo will make gobs of power.

Personally I'd go with a .63AR exhaust housing.

What about the .83 and t25 housing?

The T25 flange is more suited for a low lag setup on the SR.

If I were building an SR I'd buy this turbo, assuming I didn't mind spending $1300 bucks on a turbo.

Use the .63AR if you want fairly instant boost. Still capable of making lots of power. Not quite as much as the .86, but that's only because it's slightly more restrictive on the exhaust flow side of things. You sacrifice a bit of hp for less lag.

Okay i appreciate it, i am leaning towards the gt3071r, I'm guessing you don't recommend that turbo for the power im seeking?

It's overkill, but still a good turbo. IMHO, the objective should be to get the turbo that will give the least amount of lag possible and still reach your power goal.

That's why I suggested the 2871.

Hopefully some other peeps will chime in.

WD's truthiness is not to be questioned!

The GT2871r .64 is tried and true. Only other turbo I'd even consider using for goals like this would be the Borg Warner EFR 6258. Maybe.

After looking around and about into these turbos I've decided i want the gt2871r db bearing with a t25 or t3 housing. Would this still get me around 400 hp?

Get the T25 housing. The 2871 is a sweet turbo for the SR.
