I'm putting a sr20det s13 redtop into my '72 Datsun 510. I have figured out all the wiring, but I've ran into a little problem. I need to extend my MAF wire and my O2 sensor wire. As some of you may know, theres a braided ground wire that surrounds the wires going to the MAF and 02 sensor. What do I do about this? I know it's to block out any signals that shouldn't go through the wires, but they have to be longer, there's no way around it. And one of my friends told me that you shouldn't make the wires longer because they are a certain length for a reason and if you make them shorter or longer they might not read correctly. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

You can extend them without any problems. Its shielded wiring, try to find some from some shops or people who have extra harness's laying around. Extending the MAFS and O2 sensor wiring during the SR swap is essential, without doing it the swap is pretty much impossible. Dont worry about extending.
