You do not have to get a new battery if you're using the stock smic. If you have a fmic that you want to install you may want to relocated your battery to the trunk instead as it's the cheaper route to go than buying another battery which can cost upward to $100.

And you basically just have to lengthen your maf plug and o2 sensor plug to the driver side. I think that's all I did...

Sorry to digress, but how do you relocate the battery to the trunk, S13240? I mean, where do you run your + & - cables? Or do you just use the + cable and - to the chassis? And how do you connect the cables to the original battery clamps?

I haven't relocated my battery so I wouldn't know where to run the cables.

i ran it thought the the car, and just attached the ground to the chassi. its not that hard, and I didnt have to lenghten the O2 wire, just the MAF, AC and powersteering.

You run a really thick positive cable from the battery in the trunk and attach it to the where the old positve connected. The negative battery terminal is grounded in the trunk. it's a little like hooking up an amp to your stereo. Just make sure you have the battery tied down or in a box.

The whole process took me about an hour and a half. The biggest pain is getting the thick wire through the firewall.

Implicit,

I know a lot of people are not going to like what I write, but from my experience it is better if you put your ecu in its mounting place and connect it, then take a look at the harness in the engine bay. Properly identify what each plug is supposed to go where and then decide which wires to lenghten or shorten. If this is your first time doing the swap, as was mine last month, this is the best way to get the neatest wire runs. Thats just my 2 cents.
