has anyone ever thought about puting in a vg30dett in there 240 instead of sr20det. i like this idea better than the 240 because you can just find a old junked 300zx out of a junkyard and you could use the engine, trans, ecu, harness, intercooler, radiator, drive shaf, and maybe the back axle

does any one know or have any info on this swap??

well with the VG being only three cyliders long it may drop down onto the KA mounts. I would hate to think about the inaccesibility of the turbos but it can't be worse than a 300ZX!

Mattback had / has whats needed to drop a VG in. He posted along time ago that if like 5+ were interested he would make whats needed...no one was.

According to Mattback the VG can hold alot of boost and can made be insanely fast.

I think this was a U-H project and he got it from them.

stock, the vg30 runs at about 9 psi i think, but it can handle a lot more than that...al u need is an ecu upgrade or a boost controller

IntercoolerS, have fun plumbing all those pipes :)

You can up the boost fine on stock injectors... they are 370cc units and will hold upped boost just fine. Once you start moving up to the TD05s you will need to move up to 550ccs minimum with 720cc injectors being the prefered option.

VG's are notorious for being found in sh!tty condition so source your motor well. It also is cheaper to source a JDM motor. It will most likely be lower milage as well.

yeah, about the weight of an rb, how much does an rb20 weigh? It cant be much more than an sr, they are both 2 liter single turbo. but wouldnt the rb run smoother due to the 2 extra cylinders? The rb25det and vg30dett sound awesome, but how do they affect the weight distribution?

An SR is aluminum. The much longer RB is not. I would expect around 100lbs...just a guess though.

the sr is 100lbs lighter than the rb25, and it has more metal removed (larger bore)

if you wanted an N/A i'd say play with a VG, it might be fun, but with 2 turbos, 2 intercoolers, it might start to get complicated.

I looked into this and am still looking into this. appearently, the infiniti J30 is built on a stretched S14 platform. if that holds true, all I need is a front crossmember from a J30 and bolt it in to my S13. seeing as how the J30's had the VG30DE to start with. or perhaps an old S12 200sx with a VG30 in it, but good luck finding either of these in a junkyard.

McAdam

p.s. found a J30 in a yard about 3 hrs away, I am gonna go get pics and take measurements of the crossmember. oh yeah, the 240sx engine bay is actually 3 inches WIDER strut tower to strut tower than the 90+ 300zx's.

J30 is based on S14 platform? Didn't the J30 come out before the S14?

well you could always go the single turbo route, take an older vg3odett (find best condition possible of course, as most were dogged out and crap now) and rip out the two turbo's, run a t4, of if u want to get daring a nice gt2835, or t66, then you only have one turbo' more top end, and of coures with a bigger turbo and more boost, some nice nismo 66oCC injectors would be fine, and a nice spearco front mount, the VG does fit inside the 24o (heard it done, i am no eyewitness , just repeating waht ive heard) so with money, its possible

well, I was looking into a VG30DET from a JDM CIMA car, make custom exhaust manifolds so I could put the turbo up front, then hang a T04E off fo it. I guess we'll see when I go to the yard to match stuff up.
