In my opinion, I feel that turboing the KA is the way to go. It gives you more torque which is my personal preference.

I guess the real question isn't money, but rather what is the end purpose of your swap and how much power do you want to have? That can go a significant distance towards deciding which you want to do.

EDIT: No SR20DET is going to cost $2000 to install. You need to buy so many things by the end of the swap to make it a reliable swap, example being the swap package for $4900 at SR Swap.

Well, I'm not that knowledgable about turbos/SR20's, but I'm pretty sure you're not gonna get near 300hp out of just a turbo, unless it's a freakin huge one, in which case you're gonna lose an assload of low-end torque. The KA engine comes stock with 140hp, so, based on the physics of a turbocharger, you'll probably be around 200 after a moderate turbo (maybe a t3/t4). But that's just my estimation, I could be totally off. Another thing is, after the SR20 conversion, you'll have a 6spd transmission, and I think that's a big perk.

only the s15 comes with 6 gear, it's rare, it's expensive, and many people dislike it from what I hear

I would turbo the KA, but I'd prefer the torque from it. Out of those turbo sets I would say pick the top one, or hunt around and buy the parts individually maybe save some cash.

Honestly i dont see why the sr should be faster when you have almost half a litre in dsplacement over the car also the extra torque you have before boost should really help you launching off the line compared to an SR
