Hey guys and gals(for the few that are here ;) ),

Probably purchasing an SR sometime in the near future. I see some places have the SR20DET S13 (90-93) but also have an engine marked SR20DET GTiR (91-93)

Was wondering what the GTiR possesses over the regular SR20 to make it $350USD more in price?

Anyone got any ideas?

well the gtir is a transverse mount engine with a awd transmission. In other words, it wont fit in a 240sx.

If I'm not mistaken, the GTi-R engine has individual throttlebodies (a VERY coveted item among the Japanese SR20 owners)I'm not sure about the internals, but there are some differences b/w the two.Vkoslak is right, though, about the transmission being transverse. But if you are willing to source some parts, not only can you make it work, but you can make it better than the SR20s that everyone else has. All in all, it's one of those things that would be nice, but the added cost doesn't outweigh the benefits

The GTiR SR20DET also comes with a T-28 turbo apposed to a T-25 and also has 227hp aposed ot 205.

The GTiR has a slightly beefier bottom end then all other stock turbo SR's. The ITB's can be transplanted but it requires some fabrication (the throttle body will be at the wrong end) and supposedly the HP gains are not worth the time/money invested. The turbo is supposed to be slighly better than the s15 T28 as well.

The reason you get ITB's isn't for top-end horsepower (although it does help), it's about throttle response. If drag racing is your main thing, then it's not worth the time & effort needed to make it work. But if street racing (or drifting) is your thing, the additional response is probably more important than horsepower.Think about Why the RB26 is so much better than the RB25 (I'm not talking about the durability). It's not the the added displacement of 100cc. It's the supporting components like ITB's and shorter piping etc etc. Bottom line is that the ITB makes a huge difference in response, and a noticable difference in power. This conversion is the reason that I'm leaning towards the SR over the CA (& please don't turn this into one of those debates).

You right, i was thinking in only one dimension (horsepower). If you ever get around to it, let us know how it turns out.

That'll be the day. . . lol

The engine is pretty much the last thing I'm doing. . . got to get the rest of the car up there to where it'll handle the increase in power. I got a whole list of stuff I gotta to first.

BTW, if anyone's thinking about this mod, you're gonna need to do some minor fabrication. Unless if you've got the S13 front end. The hood sits too low on the version w/ retractable headlights. probably could just lower the engine a little, though. Not that hard to do. . .
