i just got done putting a clutch in a eclipse gst (fwd) its a 98, for a friend of mine. anyways when i was test driving it the car pulled really nice. I have a 92 240sx coupe and im doing the sr20det swap. at the looks of the specs the motors are about the same in performance numbers. so i guess im asking the OWNERS of sr20det equiped 240's (not the guys whos friends knows a guy who has one) who have drivn the newer gst eclipses to give me a comparison on how they differ. like which one feels faster and all that. I would think the nissan is lighter so it should feel faster once it gets traction right? but i know stock gst's put out pritty good quarter mile times. thanks for the info guys

Stock for stock you will win. The second gen eclipses way a significant amount more than your car, like 400 pounds at least, they're also front wheel drive which, while it saves them some transfer case loss it doesn't do much for their alunch acceleration. You will win because youre lighter, so long as you have comparable horsepower numbers due to your lighter chasis and rear wheel drive advantage, assuming both of you are completely equal as drivers. He'd have to be pretty good and you'd have to be pretty bad for him to win. Good Luck!

the gst's are actually almost identical in weight (around 2600-2700). The AWD gsx's weigh about 400 pounds more (3000 pounds). If they both are bone stock w/o upgrades it will be close and almost down to the driver, although if at a stop, you should be able to get more traction and wax him.

Doesn't swapping to an SR give you slightly less weight over a KA?

yeah it would since an SR is a aluminum block and the KA is a iron block. (right??)

are the gs-t's quicker than the gs-x's?i know the awd weighs quite a bit more, but traction would no longer be a problem. i guess that would matter more once you get more power out of them.

funny i just got my sr20det installed and raced a friend with an lowered eclipse gst with only an K&N cone air filter and greddy type s bov he beat me not bad but he beat me i think its because i am running the stock airbox and stock downpipe and the cat and exhaust from the ka and it wasnt running full boost it was only running between 5-6

i was lookin for a gsx for awhile but couldnt find a 2nd gen for under 15k. for that kinda money i could have one hell of a 240....and i would much rather stick with nissan:)

oh, and as far as head to head...the SR has a lot more power, and pull in higher gears, feels a lot faster in 5th and has better throttle response....but they are ALL different drivetrains...why are comparing a fwd vs rwd vs awd.....

I guess I could step up a bit with some dsm knowledge.

Stock FWD 2nd gen is going to pull 15.4-15.6 give or take.

The 2nd gens had T25 Garrets and the 1st gens had 14Bs.

On launch the awd would own the 240 even with the sr20det. awd launches are amazing to say the least. Ive seen several stock 1st and 2nd gen gsxs pull like a ***** from 0-330 and destroy many faster cars in that distance ie vette, camaro. This is only a 0-330ft though after that the power of the above mentioned takes over and runs off.
