OK so I just fixed my engine had pulled everything out reinstalled everything, I started it up and either my T/O bearing or Mainshaft bearing went bad and needs to be replaced...I don't want to have to pull the engine again, so my question is....How can I remove the transmission while the engine is still in the car, I have tried once, and it appears to not be enough clearance. I used to be able to do this with my KA but am having no luck with this engine. Does anyone have any tricks, because everywhere I searched people say slide back and remove, and that's not happening

you are in luck my friend i just did this, it is a pain in the a** but can be done. I just dropped the front sub frame a little and man handled it off, best way. Make sure you keep the back of your transmission up and watch your down pipe,it will bend if you go to low, are you could remove it. You should have enough room to get to everything i did it on jack stands so i think anyone can do it

And yeah it doesn't just slide out it hits the fire wall like a mofo

this method would have been very easy had my bolts came loose. Instead they just kept spinning with the bolt that is inside the frame rail. I ended up just pulling the engine again. Found it to be a bad input shat main bearing the aftermath was horrible, good thing I had the guts to another transmission laying around

Well I threw out all the ball bearings that were floating in the bell-housing and all of the pieces of metal mostly came out with the oil. I didn't get any pics cause my battery in my camera was dead and I was filthy. basically there was no bottom bearing on the front of the transmission left at all

yes it was, and to top it all off I had to remove the transmission 1 more time...welded the top of nuts to frame to drop sub this time...leaky front cover even though the gasket was not torn

This job is a bear! Even more so with stiff mounts

The eeasiy way to do it (in my experience) is to literally install the transmission 'upside down', and once you get it up in there, you spin the whole thing over to line up the bolts.

I heard a noise in my engine area that was louder at the bell-housing. Sounded like bearings being thrown around

iv pulled my friends transmission with no problem. red top sr20 while it was in the car what i did was put a jack under the front of the motor while the front of the car was on jack stands, by tilting the motor back it gave me enough room 2 slide it in and out, but make sure not to over twist ur motor mounts, 2 be safe id loosen them, then lift the front of the motor

exactly what the last guy said....

the easiest way without taking the subframe down is to loosen the motor mounts...

and put a block of wood under the front lip of the oil pan and jack up on that as much as you can until you see the car about to come off the jack stands....or lift then flip the transmission to the side or even upside down and pull it out..

also this is alot easier with the down pipe off! take the extra 5 minutes to take the down pipe loose it will save you hours of "what is going on"

It does really but i like to do things super clean so basically pull it off and rotate the transmission about 90-180 degrees until it starts to come out. I suppose loosening your motor mounts might make it a bit easier.

You really think that youd have to pull the engine to change a clutch on a car so popularly drifted? (IE clutch kicked and burning out clutches constantly). COME AWWWNNN the japanese are smarter than that

It can be done just have some patients, its not much harder than a ka.
