sr20det transmission rebuild question

Hey guys my transmission is going. Can I bring it to a transmission shop to get rebuild? I notice that the ka and sr trans are almost the same. Would the sr take the same rebuild kit? Thanks for any help!!

make sure you use the search button up top. this will keep you from getting flamed for asking the same questions that have been asked. but to answer yes. they are the same. 5th gear a little different. nothing you will notice. there is also a thread in here about swapping bellhousings if you wanted to find a used ka trans.

There are a couple internal differences between sr and ka trans. First, one of the shift forks is cast iron(I don't remember which one), and the syncro's are different. The ka trans has two 3-piece syncro's and the sr has three 3-piece syncro's. If I remember right, usdm s14 trans use three 3-piece syncro's. Other than that, it's a pretty straight up rebuild and a trans shop will have no problem doing it.

i don't want to do the swap to the ka trans. I guess my real question is the transmission rebuildable by most any transmission shops. Mine grinds going into second and fifth in medium to high rpms.
