If your car is already a stick, shouldn't you just have to swap the bellhousing? and get a stick ECU?

zero...wtf is the relevance of that? get a stick ecu? if hes getting the clip then he will get the whole transmission and the ecu. wow. pristine-most of them are sticks, i think u have to specifically ask for a auto, but call the place u oredered from and find out for sure.

What he is saying is that if it comes with an auto transmission obviously it will have the auto ecu then he would have to swap the transmission and get a manual ecu #62...i think...........oh and I have heard of many people getting the auto.

Early model blacktops (S13 1994-1995 (6?) can run off the #62 ECU.

It does not matter whether you have a manual or auto ECU, #63 (auto) is running my manual just fine.

I don't know how relevant this is to the original post but I have heard that people running a standard/manual transmission have had no problems running with a ECU from a automatic (#63?)

auto/manual ECU's are interchangeable. As are all S13 ecus with the exception of the TYPEX ecu

EDIT: all S13 SR20DET ecus.. i obviously didnt mean that a ca or Ka ecu was a direct swap.

The Type X didnt get a special ECU. All the Later (1997-1998) 180SX's with SR20DET's recieved the J4 ECU. So the true question is, will the J4 ECU run an earlier S13 SR20DET?

#62, #63, E5 and E6 are the redtop and early blacktop (1994-1996) ECU's. Their serial numbers are 23710-50F**, the 23710 means it is an ECU and this number will be found on all Nissan ECU's. The 50F** (last two are random numbers like 10 or 05) represents the chassis that the product was first used on. So the 50F represents the S13 Silvia/180SX, though you will find some parts on the SR that have a number 52F**, those are also for the S13 Silvia/180SX from what I can tell.

The serial number for the later model 180SX is 23710-60F** and many of the parts such as the wiring harness are marked 60F**. Therefore the parts were redesigned. I do not know if that means they will not run the 50F-52F series parts but they are clearly different as people have mentioned before.

you are correct, i am referring to the 97-98 blacktops.. usualy called Type X blacktops.. tho i think the type X trim level was available for several years prior.

this ecu uses a different pin out. when used on a red-top/early blacktop style harness it will result in firing on only 1 cyl. This can be re wired.. tho i think most people just swap for the correct ecu.
