i'm not sure if this topic has been covered before. would it be possible to start and run the sr20det without it's turbo. as in removing the turbo and installing set of headers. and redo the intake piping just like any NA motor. would the there be any modifications be done to the ECU or would i have to get and ECU from an sr20de non turbo.

it's possible. The DE's ECU was designed around a different ignition system, so you would have to swap to a distributer IF you got a DE ECU. So if you stick with the current air and fuel setup of the turbo, but got a set of headers, it could work. but my question is why?

well on my drive home from vegas, about 3 1/2 hours normally, my turbo separated from the turbo manifold. there was absolutely no power at all without the boost. it serioulsy took about 10 seconds to go from 55 to 65 with full throttle. i dont think its a good idea at all. the motor does nothing without the turbo.

I ran my old SR20DET for a week or so bypassing the turbo. The turbo smoked so bad that it was embarrasing to drive. I just moved the MAF onto the pipe right before the TB, plugged it in, put the air filter on it and away I went. There is absolutely no power, but you can still hear the turbo spool, you just dont go any faster
