ive been hearing this noise just recently and i pulled my valve cover and removed the top chain guide which i could see some wear marks. the thing that is bugging me is the slack side..the right side i can move the chain a considerable amount. i stuck a magnetic wand down the in between and the magnet pulled the chain and i could wiggle the chain.

do you think its my tensioner going bad?

Hey this exact problem is happening with my ka24de and was going to post about it. I can also make the same slap noise with my finger with the chain hitting the guide. So, same question tensioner is bad? Also one of my stupid friends dropped a bolt from the valve cover and it landed on the bell housing, stuck behind some wires no way to get it. Anyways you think I'll be fine running it with 4 bolts? 2 in the front 2 in the back? Back center is the one missing, It's not leaking or anything from what I can see. Car is a '95 automatic se if that matters/helps. Just got it 2 days ago too, loving it so far and don't expect it to be perfect.
Thanks guys :)

The tensioner is actuated by oil pressure so you are going to have some slack in the chain when the engine is not running.

ill try and post a video because the slack is ridiculous not so much to where it will skip timing but the same noise i hear when i drive i can create with how much i am able to move the chain.
