I have an 89 w/ a blacktop sr. But....i have no tach signal coming into my ecu....i have searched everywhere. Has anyone had this problem and solved it. Does anyone know where exactly the tach signal comes from on the motor?

89''s factory tach is for a SOHC. SR's are DOHC so you need a tach that reads a dual cam pulse (like out of a 91 or 92 )

EDIT: search harder, this question comes up almost DAILY on this forum.

common problem. even with a dohc tach you still wont get a reading. ka uses a distributor to read and sr dosent. you need a converter to read it. cant remember what it is... post in sr20 forums..... may get a better awnser.

I have searched...like i said...incessantly. I dont understand why it being a sohc would have anything to do. I know the stock tach wont work. Which is why i am running a Defi tach. Which does work with no adapter on the SR. The tach signal comes from the motor to the ecu, and then out to the dash. So yet again, there should still be signal coming from the motor to the ecu, which i should be able to tap into. I have posted everywhere, i have searched everywhere, and no one has a solution. please help if you can.

If your speedo works, then the tach signal should work. Did you try to read the defi instructions or call customer service?
