Just thought Id share this, back when I got my car in January of 2002, probably a few month later I called a Japan Engine Supplier, and they quoted me $1100 for red top and $200 shipping. So I figure for sh-ts and giggles let me see their prices now, The redtop is between 2000-2500. How f-cked is that. The pouplarity of drifting raised the prices of the engines and made other ***holes steal our parts from our cars.

P.S. Im on my lunch break so I figure why not do a post.

Well ever hear about supply and demand? Y not raise the price if people are willing to pay it?

Damn drifting made our cars more exposed. But new and better products came out of it, so it's cool. The drifting "craze" will die down soon, if it hasn't already...

I would say go KA, but properly turboing a KA isn't cheap either.

As said before supply and demand plays a role in setting the price. As the demand for the SR goes up, so will the price. And the flipside is true too, as the supply for SRs gets smaller by the day, the price will go up. Since both the demand has increased and the supply has decreased, you see a big jump in price.

but once the drifting crazy dies down and the supply goes down. companies might get desperate to unload SR20's you the price will drop once again

I wouldn't count on that.

I mean, did it ever happen with B16As? Nope.

I don't see SR prices dropping any time soon either.

yeah sr20det "swapped" into our cars used to be 2grand flat. now its like about 4. should've got it along time ago like us. it was like the obvious choice to do.

people in japan are scared of getting their 180sxs and silvias stolen/chopped up and shipped over here lol.

thats because b16s are available here also. check out the price of the b16b and cr/c5.

This is why I like Ca18's.

Small, capable and cheap.

But it is kind of underpowered for such a big car, so dont get one. Go get a SR20, fanboy.
