I am looking to do a blacktop SR20DET swap into my 1990 240sx. I was wondering what all I am going to need other than the engine (duh), it comes with everything but the AC pump and intercooler.

Is there any body mods or welding that I'll have to do? I am really hoping to do this soon and not screw up considering its not exactly cheap...

Any info and/or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Also, whats the MAJOR difference between the redtop and the blacktop? Besides the color of course.

Thank you!!!

only mods you would have to do to your body would be cutting a hole for the intercooler piping, and relocating some stuff in front for the intercooler to fit, or you can take the easy way out and take the front bumper off. (metal ram)

Who are you getting the engine from that it comes with everything but the intercooler?

You will need the sr wireharness spliced to be compatible with the s13 chasis and an upgraded fuel pump.

Those 2 are necessary, but imo I would replace some other parts before the engine goes in. I bought my sr about 3 - 4 months ago and it's finally going in this weekend.I bought a gasket rebuild kit, clutchmasters st 3 clutch, greddy ras, arp head studs, resurfaced flywheel, aluminum radiator, dual fans, silicone hoses, downpipe, fmic kit with bov, stainless turbo lines, new rear trans seal, new engine mounts, etc.

IMO it was just easier for me to replace these things while the engine was out of the car and it would make the swap nicer in the end. Only thing I didn't replace that I should have was the timing chain. I guess I'll just have to do that sooner or later while it's in the car.

But you don't need that stuff to do the swap all you really need is the wireharness and fuel pump

The blacktop comes with a slightly upgraded turbo putting out a little more horsepower, but nothing a bigger turbo on the redtop can't beat.

Only S15 SR's came with larger injectorsS14&15's came with VTC S14 came with BB T28S15 SR also did to but with a slightly larger exhaust size

Like 240Life said S13 Sr's are a little better if you plan on running more than 350hp Parts are more cheaper/abundant and a few KA parts can cross over. Also wireing is alot easier than the S14 or S15

Correct S13 Red Top SR and S13 Black Top SR (Kouki/Type X) are exactly the same except Type X Cams are a little more agressive (slightly) and Wireing ECU Pin out is differnt

S14's VTC become useless over 350hp, there are 2 differnt electrical systems for S14 sucha as MAF's and ECU's so trying to find correct parts is difficult

This is the site I'm looking at:

http://www.jdm-online.com/cata...=desc

The reason I was looking into this is because I currently have a KA and I need to rebuild the top. Instead of rebuilding I was going to do the swap. But then my friend was talking to me and suggested just building up the top.

The engine is bored out .3 over (now 2700 instead of 2400). So what do you guys think? Really sup up the top end or swap?
