I have a 95 240sx with a knocking ka but im not sure what im doing so the ka just sits on the motor stand. i want to buy an sr20 and just put it in the 240 but i know very little. Im doing all the work so any advice will be great. like where should i buy an sr20 from or what year 240 will it have to come from? Will it fit in my s14 if i buy an sr20 that was in a s13? What should i look out for when buying and how do i know if the motor is good if its already out of the car?

I've always suggested people use Phase2motortrend.com but it doesn't look like they offer the full engine on their website anymore. Maybe give them a call.
Here's a thread rating the vendors:

You'll need a wiring harness to go with it. I suggest www.wiringspecialties.com.

You'll be able to put any engine in the car you want. You'll just need the associated wiring harness to go with it. Some states have funky laws about which engine swaps you do, if you care about that sort of thing.

Evidently JGY also sells engines.

I see 240sxmotoring.com sells built engines. I'm not sure if they still have normal engines for sale as well. I've dealt with them a lot and have nothing but good things to say. I'd give them a call as well.

To answer your question, there is a broad variety of available options in order for you to obtain an SR...I'm not going to give you an opinion on which to use but it does not matter as far as the specific 240...the SR is the equivalent to a KA in Japan... so from what I have been told, dont hold me to it and I am sure someone will correct me, but you can use the stock KA mounts on the SR and that its basically a straight drop in....there is a plethora of available companies to get SRs just use google....

Any sr will fit as long as it's a rear wheel drive engine, but I would do something more out of the norm, I am doing a turbo vh45 swap and that can be done for the same price of a sr20
