I have a 1990 240sx coupe (non fastback) and the factory KA24E engine is blown and the transmission is basically shot (owner before me treated her terribly). I am going with a cheap performance fix by going with a red top SR20DET. I need to know if i need aftermarket mounts (if so where to get them) and if there is anything else i need to replace with aftermarket parts to make her run again. I am new to the Nismo world and have never worked on a Nissan before now, so please, no flaming. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey man,

There is a LOT of information on SR20 swaps on the site, you just have to search for it (even easier, there are stickies that will take you to the right place).

But, long story short, you don't need special mounts. The SR20DET is a direct drop in motor (though you should probably just buy some new motor mounts while you have it out of the car anyways). Besides that, you'll need new heater hoses, which a whole bunch of places sell, and some kind of intercooler plus piping (also widely available). Also, make sure you get EVERYTHING with the motor/transmission (like ECU, wiring harness, turbo, manifolds, ignitor chip, CAS, etc.).

You should definitely do your homework though, because you'll be throwing in a good amount of money to get your new motor running right. But you are in the right place.

P.S. Don't put post anything else like this, or you'll be sure to get megaflammed.

The only good intercooler i could find says it's for PS13 (SR20DET) would that work?

I aslo found a greddy intercooler for a lower price but it says under vehicle applications it works with 89/98 180sx and 89/93 Silvia and if i'm not mistaken mine is not a silvia its a zenki. Would this intercooler kit work?

http://www.frsport.com/Greddy-....html

that is the link for the second intercooler

I am getting the parts through frsport.com and i'm hoping you say the intercooler will work if not do you know a website that has an intercooler for the S13 chassis with S13 SR20DET?

Any intercooler will work in any car. You just gotta figure out how to fit it. Sr20 is the easiest motor swap for the 240 besides a stock swap. You might wanna get a new clutch if your buying an older sr. And silvia/180/200 are all the same thing.

I recommend buying the swap dvds from www240sxtechdvds.org They have helped me out quite a bit. It shows about everything you need to know. I wouldn't say it's a cheap swap. I have quite a bit invested and I am still not finished buying parts. You should look into that before you get in to far over your head. If your new to working on cars or 240sx's for that matter. I bought mine a year ago and both motor and transmission have gone. They are just old cars man. Doesn't mean they got treated bad.
