This has probably been answered anyway, but as long as this freakin' thread was brought up in the first place...Ok, the thing isn't legal, so you're screwed if someone looks in the engine bay and realizes "this is way to good of an engine to be original equipment in the crap we get in the U.S. of freakin' A, so I better tell someone so that I can fill up my prick status. My question is concerning whether an sr20det with a cat (not the stock one, apexi or greddy and others like these, ya know, high flows) can pass the actual smog test, and just can't pass a visual inspection.

Oh yeah, daunt, why don't ya just stick this in the sr20 for dummies or whatever stickied thread so you can tell everyone to f$ck off when they ask this question because it's already in the freakin' thread they should have read first?!

Hail to the King is a reference to Bruce Campbell's Character Ash in the Evil Dead Series, 1, 2, and Army of Darkness. I personally prefer Army of Darkness, excellent movie.

It's years since I've seen it but I have to agree Army of Darkness was an excellent movie... "shop smart, shop S-Mart", same movie, right?

I've been on the 240sx mailing list for about 3 years and only just joind this forum because I've only just started a SR swap. Seems logical to me.If you don't want to answer newbie/repeat questions that's fine by me.

Nah, the point of the matter was that I do keep repeat answering them and theres no reason to when there are better answers than I can give without typing out 3 pages worth of information. Its a basic question that gets asked consistently and it could be solved with the search button. I'm one of the most lax people when it comes to telling everyone to search, but there are a FEW things that theres an overabundance of answers to. My comment about the 9 posts was directed at the fact that had you registered earlier, you would have noted how much this comes up, and how much its been answered, most people don't even look at these threads anymore. The only reason I have the amount of posts I do is because I keep answering peoples questions, this one I'm just tired of because no one ever accepts the answer when its given to them and then you went on to make it a personal matter with my shop, which it has absolutely nothing to do with, I'd be shocked if you could name a shop out there that won't tell you the swap is illegal and it doesn't hurt business. Thats also the only reason I bothered to respond to your thread. : ) Now, do enjoy your time here at NICO.

The sniffer can be passed, you can pass the actual tailpipe emissions test so long as you have a cat and nothing outrageous. Every other test will fail. There are various other tests that are performed around the country, you need to check with your local emissions people to see what tests are performed. It will fail a visual and a computer check, because the engine doesn't belong there and the ECU won't hook up to a computer. There really isn't any way to get around it, and sometimes you will fail the actual sniffer test, it just depends on your setup. Enjoy your day.
