completely stock SR20DET motor with a 3 inch all the way to the back.

1992 nissan 240sx

ok this is my first time owning an Sr20det motor so i dont know if this is normal but My engine starts whinning loud around 3500-4000k rpm.. and it gets scary.. i have not even tryed red lining it because after 4k rpm it gets way too loud and sounds like its gonna blow up..

i would think that this bad boy should be able to cruise around 3-4k rpm no problem. but im just wondering since most of you guys are experts at this.

also sometimes i hear a pop sound in the back of the car and it seems to me that it is backfiring but i am not too sure.

the exhaust makes a bassy sound exactly at 3k rpm but after that it goes away.. this makes my car vibrate quite a bit and i dont know if thats normal or not.

any ways to diagnoise these things/problems?

sounds like it might be an exhaust leak something my car is notorious for.check all your bolts and nuts on your manifold, elbow, and turbo.

Clutch fan could be stuck? Go test spin the fan.

Mine is whining really loud almost like a blower... but thats because I sucked some debris into my t25...

Check for exhaust leaks and check the condition of the clutch fan. Worn out clutch fans are notorious for making whining sounds.

Sounds like you're dumping unburned fuel into the exhaust. Somewhat not unusual. How bad is it?

More than likely its the carrier bearing on the driveshaft. It tends to wear out. Mine was doing the same exact thing until I replaced it.

Any good ways to check for exhaust leaks? The car backfires after each hard shifts and when i put it on high throttle. Is this an easy fix? or would i need to take it to a mechanic?
